For the last 20-30 years, America’s politics has become overtaken by extremists and now, our Congress is not only inept, but corrupt as well. We have 10-12 Congress members that actually helped plan the insurrection against our nation and yet, most remain in Congress. Congress just expelled a representative for some of the most egregious crimes/bribes/lies/etc that we have seen in the last 100+ years. Yet, another remains in the senate who is obviously on the take from Egypt and likely other foreign nations and rich people. We have tried to push term limits on Congress members but to no avail. Likewise, many have pushed for a Balanced Budget Amendment. We have a number of nations sending KNOWINGLY pregnant women here, who then give birth in America and return to their nation to raise their child in a foreign culture, even those hostile to America, so that they can come back here as an American, and even run as a president. What has Congress done? Nothing. One way of correcting this is changing our elections, with Ranked Candidate Voting (or a different type), along with public funding of candidates. While a number of people have fought to solve this, Harvard Professor Dr. Lawrence Lessig has been fighting this for over a decade. Sadly, Congress and perhaps more importantly, the Republican and Democratic parties themselves, are not interested in actually changing things. As such, people working this, esp. Prof Lessig, are seriously tilting at windmills. So, how do we solve these? We need to amend the Constitution extending how we add amendments. Currently, this is how the Constitution defines adding amendments.
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.
In a nutshell, it says how Congress can add an amendment. However, if that does not work, then the states can add amendments. Problem is, that the same political parties controlling Congress control state legislators. So, nothing will be fixed.
Since none of these will happen, the only real solution is an amendment that allows CITIZENS the right to pass an amendment. That is what was meant by Constitutional party, but it was never clearly defined. Here is the amendment needed:
We, the Citizens of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, shall have the right to amend the constitution directly, by having a simple majority of voters of three fourths of the states OR two thirds of voters in two thirds of the states, within a 10 year period of the first state passing the amendment.
The above amendment is the ONLY one that we need to fix Congress and avoid future issues.
This citizen driven approach means that we citizens can actually control Congress and return them to being REPRESENTATIVES of Americans, not RULERS.
